Fun Activities for 4th of July

July 4th is one of the most anticipated holidays of the summer because of the fireworks, how patriotic America is, the food and the fact that it lands in the summer. However, this year our big party celebrations will have to be put on hold because of the current state of the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, we will have to get creative in keeping ourselves and/or our family entertained since it is not recommended to have parties and popping fireworks are not allowed in El Paso County. Although these restrictions can make our celebrations and lives more difficult, there are plenty of ways to have fun during the 4th of July. Here are some fun activities to keep you and your loved ones entertained.

Picnic at the Park

Being cooped up in our homes for the past couple months has made life seem dull and never-ending. However, instead of staying home and having an indoor lunch or dinner, we can head over to the park and have an outdoor picnic with our family. Pack up some blankets, sunscreen, some delicious food and treats, toys for the kids and head over to the park to enjoy nature.

Backyard Camping

Another way to have lots of fun and do something different is to go camping in our backyards after the cookout is over. Backyard camping is a lot of fun and can make our families feel happier because we are doing something different than we have been doing these past few months. Rather than head out of town and waste money on traveling, we can choose to stay home and have a sort of vacation at our home without leaving the safety of it either. Pretend to be somewhere else and bring out the sleeping bags, junk food and tell some ghost stories too.

Backyard Movie Theater

If we are already planning on camping in our backyard then we might as well set up a backyard theater to enjoy some flicks in a different environment while we are doing something different with our families. Grab some popcorn and other treats and watch something patriotic or fun for the kids.

Make Patriotic Cocktails

Before we begin purchasing soft drinks, regular beer and water, we should try our hand at making some patriotic cocktails to go with our little celebration. This adult friendly activity can be a lot of fun and the drinks aren’t half bad either, especially if we attempt to create a bomb pop cocktail drink like the one they serve at places like Wing Daddy’s.

Make Ice Cream and Homemade Popsicles

Remember when we would make our own ice cream in grade school? Well we can bring that fun back to us by making our own ice cream with our family and it can even become a tradition from now on. We can also create our own popsicles for ourselves and our kiddos by using yogurt and fruit so it can be natural, healthy and refreshing all at the same time.

Pool Party

Who doesn’t like swimming and getting wet when it is extremely hot outside? Take advantage of the warm summer weather by throwing a pool party. Pool parties will get our kids tired and it will make the day seem more normal and enjoyable when we are not allowed to pop fireworks this year in the Sun City.

Campfire S’mores

If we are already going to be camping in our backyard and watching movies then we might as well start up a bonfire so we can start roasting s’mores while we are outside. Making s’mores is one of the best activities to do on any occasion and no one can resist these delicious treats. Take advantage of this time and keep all phones inside while everyone sits around then “campfire” telling stories and roasting their marshmallows.
